Director Robert Rodriguez has found a new family of special agents to reboot the popular Spy Kids franchise. The Netflix project will play the star of “Shazam!” Zachary Levi, Gina Rodriguez, Golden Globe-winning Virgin, Everly Carganilla (Yes Day) and debutant Connor Esterson, Deadline reports.


In the story, the children of secret agents unwittingly help an influential game developer release a computer virus that allows him to control all technological processes. Now the young heroes will have to become spies themselves in order to save their parents and the whole world.


Rodriguez, who has directed all of the films in the franchise, will also serve as a writer and producer on the new Spy Kids. In 2020, he already collaborated with Netflix on the fantasy We Can Be Heroes.


The original film, released in 2001, was about a pair of superspy Cortes (Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino) who settled down long after having children. However, the disappearance of former colleagues forced the couple to return to their craft along with their children.
